How to analyze cosmetic ingredients
A useful analysis starts with the full, current ingredient list rather than the claims on the front of the package.
1. Find the INCI list
Look for “Ingredients.” The outer box and bottle may carry different information, so check the full list on the packaging you have.
2. Capture the complete list
Reduce glare, keep the text straight, and include the beginning and end of the list. Treat any unreadable section as uncertain.
3. Consider the context
An ingredient name alone cannot determine a product's effects or safety. Concentration, product type, application area, and personal sensitivity all matter.
4. Keep uncertainty visible
Do not infer concentrations missing from the label. Consult a health professional about reactions, pregnancy, or known allergies.
