INGREDIENT JOURNAL
What is an INCI list?
INCI is a shared naming system for cosmetic ingredients. It helps you recognize the same ingredient across different products.
Why do the names look unfamiliar?
Botanical ingredients often use scientific Latin names, while others use standardized names. This makes comparisons less dependent on marketing terms.
What does the order mean?
Ingredients are generally listed from higher to lower amounts. Rules may allow exceptions for low-concentration ingredients and colorants, so the order does not reveal exact concentrations.
Fragrance and aroma
“Parfum” or “Aroma” can represent a mixture. If you have a known fragrance allergy, check the manufacturer's allergen information.
Why might a list change?
Formulas can be updated. Use the packaging of the product you own rather than an older list found online.
