SCANNING

How to scan skincare ingredients

Get a readable cosmetic label photo, check the captured text and build a more useful ingredient review.

Start with the ingredient panel

The product name on the front is not the formula. Turn the container around and find the complete ingredient declaration. If it is only printed on the outer carton, keep the carton beside you. Elasal can work from a photo of that list or from text you enter manually.

Give small print enough light

Place the label in even light, steady the camera and tap to focus on the lettering. Reflections can hide whole words on glossy tubes. Rotate the package slightly rather than using a flash straight at the surface. Keep every line inside the image and avoid an angle that compresses the text.

Check the input before trusting the output

Compare the captured names against the packaging. A missing comma or a cropped last line can change what is identified. When the lettering wraps around a bottle and cannot fit in one readable photo, manually enter the complete list instead. Keep ingredient names in their original order.

Your practical checklist

  • Use the ingredients panel, not the front-label claims.
  • Check the first and last lines are complete.
  • Correct unreadable names instead of guessing them.
